Staff Testimonials

What our staff say...

Hi, I’m Marion, and I am 62 years young!

I have worked in the care sector for several years, but a few years ago I decided I wanted to take a career break. After four years, I wanted to return to work, and the opportunity arose at Bowfell House.

I work in the laundry department, where I ensure the residents’ clothes get washed, dried, ironed, and returned. My role also includes ensuring all clothes are tagged to make sure things don’t go missing! Despite being located away from the residents, I often have the opportunity to interact with them. When I arrive in the morning, and when I return their clothes, I get to chat with staff, as well as residents, which is super rewarding!

Working at Bowfell is brilliant, and I can honestly say it is the best company to work for. The management team are always on hand to offer support, even if you just need to talk! The staff are compassionate and caring, and always put the residents needs first. I love coming into a workplace where you’re always greeted with a hello and a smile!

My name is Lauren, I am 22 years old, and I have been working at Bowfell for a year. I love working in activities at Bowfell House! Outside of Bowfell, I also work as a freelance poet and workshop coordinator.

Before working here, I studied English and Drama at University and had experience in youth work. I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do post-University. Honestly, I searched the words ‘creative’ into a job search app, this role came up and it felt like the perfect match. I had first-hand experience with dementia from caring for my grandmother, and Bowfell provided all the necessary training and support that I needed. I really love working here, getting to be creative every day!

There is no average day in my role, I could be doing anything from looking after our pet Guinea pig’s, to arts and crafts, to running our poetry club, to having a good old boogie with the residents. Being a part of the activities team is great because we really cater the activities to each members individual talents. I have felt so supported by the staff especially in my recent promotion to Team Lead.

Working at Bowfell House has been a welcome and refreshing change after working in EMI (mental illness) care homes for several years. The staff and residents work harmoniously together, and this is a care home that really cares! Being family run gives the home that homely feel with regular events put on for staff and residents to enjoy. The management are all incredibly approachable and ensure any issues are both heard and dealt with promptly. With an online system for all staff to access, we are regularly kept updated and in the loop with what is effectively a 24-hour operation.

Bowfell House is a fantastic place to work, especially for those looking to work flexibly as I often benefit from picking up extra shifts when I can.
